Celebrating International Women's Day 2023

When my team suggested we do something for International Women’s Day at Enkos this year, it got me reflecting.

I’m a firm believer in equality and am very fortunate to have supportive parents who raised me to believe I could do anything, ensured I had the opportunity to receive a high quality education, and provided me with the necessary access to technology to enable me to study to my nerdy heart’s content.

As a woman working in STEM, the UN International Women’s Day focus on “DigitALL: innovation and technology for gender equality” really struck a chord with me.

I feel incredibly fortunate and proud to be leading a team of talented women in STEM at Enkos, who are all individually amazing and even stronger when working together as a power team of cosmetic scientists. The fact that not all young girls are given the same opportunities that we once were is heart breaking.

Today our team has been looking back at some incredible historical female scientists, who at the time had to fight against society in order to simply study science and medicine, and whose ground-breaking work often went unrecognised.

These women helped to pave the way for the scientists we can become today. To honour them in our own small way, we have named all of our lab workstations after the figures we each found most inspirational (each Enkos team member picked their favourite!) and will be referring to these locations by their names from now on.
